Once again, I am going to one of the best and biggest search engine marketing conferences – SMX London in May.
This time I will be speaking about Technical SEO and moderate 4 sessions. So it will be a busy couple of days, but without a doubt yet another great event.
Do you want to go to SMX? If so, I have good news. As a reader of this blog I have a 15% discount code for you!
From SES to SMX
When I started working with SEO in 1996 – before there even was a SEO-business, there where not many people that knew anything about search engines. In Denmark, where I live, I could not find anyone. And even globally there where very few.
One of the first I met in the business, that really knew a lot about search engines was Danny Sullivan, that at the time lived in UK.
With his background in journalism he had established the first dedicated website SearchEngineWatch about the search engine market, full of interesting and very high quality reports and articles.
It did not take long before I became good friends with Danny and when he a few years later created the first search engine conference in the world under the brand name Search Engine Strategies (SES) I got invited to speak at the first event in London in year 2000.
SES quickly developed into a global conference with events in USA, UK and Europe. I was hired to host and organise the first SES conference in Copenhagen in 2001 and became a regular speaker at alle the other events. I spoke about SEO, Technical SEO, Cloaking (yes, we actually had dedicated cloaking sessions back then!) and dynamic websites (back when not all websites where database driven).
I ended up traveling a lot. A lot! But it was some amazing years with so many great experiences, lots of cool industry friends and sharing of creative SEO strategies and methods. I gave over 200 presentations in the first years.
Danny Sullivan and his business partner Chris Sherman sold SES in 2006 to Jupiter Media and shortly after this established the websites Search Engine Land and Marketing Land and based on this the new conference brand SMX – Search Marketing Expo.
I continued as a regular speaker at SMX but eventually I had to reduce the number of international conferences. With two kids at home and a growing business to mange I could not travel as much as I used to.
But hold on to SMX London. Every year, since the first event, I have presented there and helped out as moderator. I love this conference.
SMX is without a doubt one of the best SEO conferences in the world today. The quality of content and speakers are excelent and Danny and Chris knows better than anyone how to make a conference a pleassure to participate in – both as speaker and audience. We all feel welcome.
